how the ability works ♦ Beatrice is a fox shifter, meaning she is able to take the shape of an average sized red fox at will. With this ability she an hold the ability for hours at a time, her record being a week. When changing into her animal form, she is quite fast, able to climb, and hunt small prey. She is able to keep a lot of her rational human brain while she is a fox. When she changes back, she is usually fairly sore and experiences raw emotions (extreme positive, extreme negative). When she is experiencing a physical illness such as the flu, she is more likely to change into her animal form without meaning to.

When she's in her lab, she'll wear closed toe shoes or ballet flats to protect herself. Bea has shoulder length red hair that comes to a natural curl. She'll usually keep it pinned back when she's teaching or working, but enjoys keeping it down when she's out having fun. If she has to focus or is trying to work out a difficult problem, she'll pull her hair back into a pony tail. Beatrice is very fair skinned, has green eyes, and usually wears a modest amount of makeup. The most to stand out would be her devotion to a bright red lipstick. Bea typically wears very professional clothing, anything to help keep her students focused on the task at hand while in the classroom. Outside of her classroom, she does still dress on the conservative side, but she tends to find a plunging neckline irroestiable. A little known part of her appearance would be old scars on her thighs from self-harm due to undiagnosed depression when she was a teenager.

overall personality ♦ Beatrice was raised to be perfect. The Rochester family would accept nothing less and that level of pressure manifested in various ways. Bea is incredibly hard working, she will go after a problem until it is solved. When faced with failure, Beatrice becomes overtly critical on herself and will resort to destructive behaviors to cope with the overwhelming feelings of guilt and shame for not living up to her parents expectations. The expectations were incredibly high, and this lead to often putting Beatrice against other well off families children for academic and social status. Her main competition was Nerys Rooney Oswald. They were roommates in Primrose and their parents made sure that they were friends, but competitive as hell.

When Bea was able to leave Primrose for her degrees, she was able to take on more of her own personality. She dove into her love for math and science, she gained new friends who she didn't have to constantly watch her back around. She blossomed into a social butterfly with an affinity for Irish whisky and loud music. She graduated with her BS in chemistry, and then moved onto her PhD at Oxford. While in England, she began a relationship with one of her professors, who was married. The relationship was heated, constantly sneaking around, and led her to a taste for people who are not always the best for her. Returning to America, she thrived at Primrose and lives for her students.

Beatrice is the oldest child of James and Bianca Rochester. James and Bianca were both from old money, but wanted to provide a better life for their children. They were mostly happy in their marriage, but it always seemed like James was more cut out for parenting than Bianca. As Beatrice grew up, she was groomed by her parents to work hard and to be better than anyone else. She was raised to believe that she was better than her peers, and that she had to constantly prove that to others. She became the oldest of five daughters by the time she was eleven. When she was about twelve, she took on her father's ability to shape shift. Her father taught her mostly how to use her ability, and taught her how to keep it safe from people finding out.

When she was fourteen, she was sent to Primrose Academy to continue her education and training. It was there that she met Nerys Oswald. The two of them were roommates, and were in constant competition with each other for academic praise and social climate. Beatrice worked hard until she was sixteen to usurp Nerys. When she was sixteen, she got a letter from her mother, her father had gotten sick and reverted to his fox form. Her mother tried to keep him in the house, but he became wild and ran outside. He contracted rabies from another animal and was killed. Beatrice went back to Savannah with her sisters for the funeral and the distance between the daughters and Bianca grew even deeper. Beatrice returned to Primrose a week after the funeral and dove deeply into her studies. Bea cut herself off from everyone, becoming distant with any friends that she had, even her sisters. She began to harm herself, cutting the insides of her thighs so no one would see it. She tried to focus on her education, anything to get out of the school and on her own faster. She became fascinated with math and science, wanting to distance herself from Nerys and the petty dramas between them.

When Beatrice was seventeen, she was cleared to leave Primrose and applied for Harvard. She was able to leave Louisiana and skipped over Georgia on her way up to New England. Beatrice billed her mother for the tuition, but took on a job as a waitress to make ends meet. She made new friends who didn't try to stab her in the back. She graduated from Harvard with acceptance to Oxford to continue her education in biological chemistry. She wanted to try to understand how shifters were able to change their entire matter with a special hope to develop a cure for rabies in her lifetime.

During her time in England, she took up a passionate relationship with one of her professors. He was married, she knew and didn't care. She thought that they would be together forever. He would promise that he would leave his wife for her, she would believe all of his words. When she realized he was sleeping with all of his TAs, she tried to break it off. He became possessive, controlling, and refused to end the relationship. Beatrice was cut off from her family members, she was not allowed to speak to her sisters, which went over about as well as anyone could believe. Two weeks after he forced her to cut off communication, her sisters were flooding Oxford to figure out what was wrong. Beatrice told them everything and the skulk of foxes banded together with a plan.

They helped confront the professor, and he agreed to back down. The Rochester sisters were convinced that they had won, and they even spent an extended holiday in England to make sure. The night after they left, the professors found her and assaulted her. The assaults continued while she finished her phd. When she graduated, he found a job for her in England. He wanted her to live with his other lovers in a flat together, and all live to please him. Beatrice never showed up to the first day on the job, and caught the first plane to Atlanta. From there, she paid cash for a bus ride to Houston. She faked a stomach ache when they were close enough to New Orleans and ran from the bus.

She made her way to New Orleans, convinced that she wouldn't be able to be tracked and applied for a job at Primrose Academy. She stayed with one of her sisters until she was accepted as a teacher at Primrose. She knew that the secrecy of the supernatural community would help her hide from her ex and she would be able to hide from him and continue working in chemistry. Beatrice has been working at Primrose since she was twenty five and reconnected with Nerys Oswald.

When Nerys was made headmistress, all of the old competitive spirit that was drilled into them since they were teenagers. She's been dutiful in working under Nerys and has been spending a lot of time looking over her shoulder for signs of her ex coming back for her.
